The Graduate Exhibition really demonstrates the depth and range of ideas and methods that these students have achieved this year. You are all amazing. Keep working. Keep making. These particular images are of the protests that some students have made in response to the recent murder of Isla Bell and the shocking statistics of male violence against women. There are more of these protests in painting and in the other studios too. @rmit_art @painting_rmit The exhibition is open until 4.00pm today. #islabell

Posted @withregram • @parliamenthousecanberra ‘Parliament House, afternoon shadow’ by Kylie Stillman is a unique artwork in the Parliament House Art Collections. It was first displayed in Parliament House for the 2018 exhibition, Façade, before being acquired into the Rotational Collection. Taking a mix of 32 discarded books, Stillman hand cut the page edges to create the familiar façade of Australian Parliament House! You can see the flag up close in the third image. The books Stillman used included a 1963 volume of Senate Debates, a 1984 copy of the Acts of Parliament, and a 1996 Statutory Rules record. Today is International Sculpture Day #isday Artwork: Kylie Stillman, Red Maple, 2007, 200 sheets of hand-cut plywood 3000 x 2400 x 1240 mm Featured in HANDLE WITH CARE Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art 2008 Art Gallery of South Australia Curated by Felicity Fenner Occasionally when confronting an illusion it becomes important to start with what’s apparent or obvious or perhaps an uncomfortable truth. In this case that truth is that the 200 sheets of full scale plywood that form the basis for Kylie Stillman’s work ‘Red Maple’ was never Red Maple. This is a reality check for pine plantations everywhere because it is easy to imagine from the plywoods’ perspective that the Red Maple is an aspirational tree. It’s a grand dame of timber imported from the Far North, its leaf so effortlessly resolved by nature, so symmetrically lovely that impudent Canadian travellers everywhere feel the urge to wear it stamped on their all weather gear and laud its elegant silhouette on flags and badges that fly in the face of other less grandiloquent landscapes in which the eucalypt or pine becomes a minor cause celebre. - Catalogue extract by Alexie Glass-Kantor #kyliestillman Courtesy of @utopiaartsydney @intsculptureday
