Last days @utopiaartsydney 'Elephant Paths', Kylie Stillman’s exhibition at Utopia Art Sydney, derives its title from the phenomenon known as elephant-tracks, or desire-lines. These paths defy predetermined systems of movement curated by architects and urban planners and instead are revelations of intuition or defiance. Stillman enjoys observing these marks made by an absent body that collectively came to make these worn tracks. The artist’s process of stitching, painting and perforating of shape and line reveals an instinctive way of moving through the world and a collective capacity to forge new pathways both literally and metaphorically. 'Elephant Paths' continues until 22 March, 2025.
